50'S night has been a Whaling City tradition for more than 25 years.

While the event which features classic cars, live music, and revelers wearing their finest grease-inspired duds may seem uniquely New Bedford, organizer Joe Jesus told WBSM's Phil Paleologos the inspiration for the event came during a trip to Florida.

"Low and behold in Old Town was all of these old cars, with all of the old music, and at the end was a merry-go-round, and I thought that was so, so fantastic," said Jesus "so I decided to give it a shot."

While the event has had alot of features to it over the years Jesus says there is one thing they have not had that he feels would be a great addition to the event.

"I can't find a 50's Country band," said Jesus "if I could find one I'd definitely put them on board."

50'S Night takes place Thursday night from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.at Purchase St. and Union St.

The event is free and open to the public.
