Massachusetts Summer Forecast Is Here: Hot and Dry
If you have been enjoying the mild spring weather we have had lately, do not get too used to it. The Old Farmer's Almanac has released its long-range summer forecast, and the news for Massachusetts is pretty straightforward: it is going to be hot.
The almanac, which has been predicting long-range weather patterns since 1792, says temperatures across the Bay State are expected to trend hotter than normal this summer. And it is not just us. Much of the eastern United States is in the same boat, with the almanac pointing to a broad pattern of above-normal heat stretching across the South and East.
On top of the heat, Massachusetts can also expect things to be drier than usual. The almanac says rainfall across much of the East is expected to come in below normal, and Massachusetts fits that pattern. June and late July are specifically called out as periods when both the heat and the dryness will be most noticeable. -aol.com
So what does that mean practically? Think water restrictions, dry lawns, and a lot of people reaching for the nearest air conditioner or swimming hole. For folks who rely on well water or work outdoors, it is worth keeping an eye on things early in the season before conditions get worse.
There is a bit of relief on the horizon, at least eventually. The almanac is predicting that September and October will flip the script, bringing wetter and cooler conditions as fall arrives.
Of course, the Old Farmer's Almanac is not a perfect science. But its track record keeps people coming back year after year. For now, the message is simple: stock up on sunscreen, check your AC unit, and maybe plan that lake day sooner rather than later.
