Fall River may see a boost in tourism over the fall thanks in part to Netflix's new show Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story.

The streaming platform just announced the eight-episode season will premiere on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Star-Studded Cast Brings True Crime History to Life

The series stars Ella Beatty (daughter of Warren Beatty and Annette Bening) in the lead role. Additional cast members include:

  • Charlie Hunnam as Andrew Borden, Lizzie's father
  • Rebecca Hall as Abby Borden, Lizzie's stepmother
  • Billie Lourd as Emma Borden, Lizzie's sister
  • Vicky Krieps as Bridget Sullivan, the Borden family maid
  • Jessica Barden as Nance O'Neil, Lizzie's friend
  • Joey Pollari as John Vinnicum Morse, Lizzie's uncle

Sarah Paulson Tackles a Second Iconic True Crime Role

Sarah Paulson will also be featured in the series, but not directly tied to the Lizzie Borden story. Instead, she'll depict another example of female rage with her portrayal of Aileen Wuornos. If that name sounds familiar, it's because Wuornos was the subject of the 2003 film Monster starring Charlize Theron, a role that earned her an Oscar for Best Actress.

Ryan Murphy's Monster Franchise Expands Its Reach

It's the fourth installment of the Monster series, created by writer/director Ryan Murphy. The first three series in the franchise covered the stories of Jeffrey Dahmer, Erik and Lyle Menendez and Ed Gein. The new eight-episode season features Lizzie as the first female "monster" in the hit series.

While the house where Lizzie Borden's father and stepmother were brutally murdered on August 4, 1892 may have recently been purchased, the home where she moved after being acquitted for those same murders is on the market for anyone looking to own a piece of Fall River history.
