A Bristol County Grand Jury has handed down indictments against a former Providence, R.I. resident in connection with the homicide of a New Bedford man in April of last year.

Greg Miliote, a spokesman with the Bristol Country District Attorney's Office, says 37-year-old Sayyid Coggins was indicted on charges of murder and arson in a dwelling.

New Bedford firefighters were called to 55 Rounds St on April 15, 2014 after a 9-1-1 call reported a fire.

After the flames were extinguished crews discovered the body of the home's resident, 29-year-old Paul Downey.

Following an investigation involving New Bedford Police, Massachusetts State Police detectives and homicide unit prosecutors, a warrant was issued for Coggins.

U.S. Marshals apprehended Coggins was apprehended in Stone Mountain, Ga. on April 21, 2014 .

Coggins had already been charged as an accessory after the fact and is currently being held at the Bristol County House of Corrections.

Miliote says Coggins will be arraigned on the new charges at a later date.
