NEW BEDFORD — Illegally tinted windows led to more trouble for a New Bedford woman Sunday afternoon.

New Bedford Police responded to an alarm at the Citizens Bank Express ATM at 950 Kings Highway around 2 p.m. Sunday. While at the scene, police observed a vehicle that appeared to have windows tinted darker than legally allowed.

When officers attempted to ask the female driver what she was doing at the scene with the alarm going off, the woman became agitated. At first, she refused to give police her identification, but eventually provided it. When officers went to hand her back her ID, telling her she would be mailed a citation for the illegally tinted windows, police say she got out of her car and took a fighting stance.

Police arrested the woman, 27-year-old Melissa Gurney of Fillmore Street in New Bedford, and charged her with: window obstructed/nontransparent, failure to wear a seat belt, not in possession of a vehicle registration, disorderly conduct and two charges of simple assault.
