Labor unions are applauding the host community agreement reached by the City of New Bedford and KG Urban Enterprises, to put a casino on the city's waterfront.

Ron Rheaume of the Building Trades Union says the announcement is good news for people struggling to find steady work.....

Rheaume says the next step for KG Urban is to win the casino license for Southeastern Massachusetts.

Mayor Jon Mitchell says the casino should create 2,000 permanent jobs, plus hundreds of construction jobs.

The New Bedford City Council has gone on record a number of times supporting KG Urban's casino plan. Council President Brian Gomes is glad to see the deal finally completed......

Gomes praised KG Urban and the Mayor for working out a deal that seeks to protect Downtown.

As part of the agreement, the casino must work out a deal to promote shows at the Zeiterion, and casino employees must be trained at the Downtown campus of Bristol Community College.
