Homeowner Catches Burglar In Home

A New Bedford homeowner was able to keep a burglar in place until police arrived.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says the homeowner was responding to a burglar alarm at the home on the 900 block of Pontiac St. around 1 p.m. Monday.

Vicente says the homeowner found the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Jessica Silva of New Bedford, inside the home and in possession of cash and jewelry that was being taken from the house.

The homeowner was able to keep Silva at bay until police arrived and were able to take her into custody.

Silva was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning in New Bedford District Court on Breaking and Entering charges.
