Bristol County Sheriff Tom Hodgson has big plans for the former Shawmut Diner. Phil and Celeste Paleologos donated the diner to the Bristol County House Of Correction. It was moved there Tuesday. Hodgson wants to use the diner to teach food service skills to inmates in the pre-release program, and perhaps even sell food to the public. The Sheriff was asked if the state might frown on that plan...

Several inmates in the pre-release program met with the Paleologos family as the diner was being delivered, thanking them for their donation. Jennifer Berube was one of them.

Sheriff Hodgson says he may enlist students from Gr. New Bedford Voc-Tech High School to help with repairing the structure. He hopes the training programs can begin later this year.
