Heroin Shipment from New York Seized in New Bedford
New Bedford police stop a shipment of heroin coming in from New York.
Acting on a tip, police stopped the vehicle in question Saturday afternoon, and found 55 grams of heroin in the passenger's possession.
A search of a Dartmouth Hotel room connected to the investigation turned up 55 more grams and over $600 in cash.
Police arrested the driver, 27-year-old Porfirio Garrastazu of Ridgewood, New York, and the passenger, 29-year-old Alejandro Colon of New Bedford. They are both charged with trafficking heroin and conspiracy and have been arraigned in New Bedford District Court.
Police say the heroin had a street value of roughly $10,000.
