WBSM and ProGroup Contracting are teaming up to make sure that YMCA Southcoast's Power Scholar Academy can help to close the education gap in our community.

The YMCA Southcoast Power Scholar Academy; a full-day, five-week-long program that allows each scholar to participate in academic courses and enrichment activities.

Some lower-income students (K-7th) in New Bedford who do not have access to summer programming are at risk to regress (educationally) by 3-6 months over summer break. This is more commonly known as Summer Learning Loss.

With help from the community, the Power Scholar Academy can help to close the education gap and expose 96 at-risk students to experiences that will build diverse ideas, expose them to diverse people and places, and ultimately increase their empathy, tolerance and critical thinking skills. Most importantly, it gives kids the opportunity to thrive despite their family's income situation.

Donations made to the Power Scholars Academy will help to provide experience and supplies to scholars this summer and set them up for a successful start to school in the fall.

Donations by check can be made payable to YMCA Southcoast; 128 Union Street; New Bedford, Massachusetts, 02740 with Power Scholars in the memo.

Donations can be made online at the button below.
