The construction of the Whaling Museum's newest addition is officially underway. A ground breaking ceremony was held at the site of the future Wattles Jacobs Education Center Monday afternoon. The building will connect the museum to the Sundial Building.

Dr. Irwin Jacobs is a member of the museum's advisory council and significant donor to the project. He hopes this addition will bring more innovation to the city...

The education center will include a climate controlled research library and a dedicated space for the high school apprenticeship program. Four new public gallaries will also be added as part of the project.

The construction is planned to span from this month through next may.
