With the cold weather usually comes an increased chance that you may come down with the flu.

Flu cases here on the Southcoast have seen a slight increase this season, and one Southcoast doctor says there are only a few good ways to combat the virus. Dr. Robert Caldas, Chief Medical Officer with Southcoast Hospital Group says vaccination is the number one prevention method, followed by regularly washing your hands with soap, and avoiding people who might have the flu.

Dr. Caldas tells WBSM News people with pre-existing medical conditions need to be very careful this time of year.

Dr. Caldas says there have been 79 confirmed cases of the flu in the three Southcoast hospitals in just the past week.
