City Councillor at Large Brian Gomes is up for re-election.

Speaking on "The Taylor Cormier Show," Gomes highlighted the severity of the nation's opioid epidemic. Gomes says he blames pharmaceutical companies and doctors for profiting off of the public's vulnerability to such addictive substances. "Once they knew that it was happening, noone stepped up and tried to stop it. And they didn't stop it because the almighty dollar is more important than the life of someone (who), by giving these things, would turn them into an addiction that is very hard to get away from," said Gomes.

Gomes has proposed the City follow in the footsteps of Gloucester's "angel program," which provides sponsors to addicts who turn in their drugs to the police department. The election is Tuesday, November 3.
