Dealing with cancer can be a torturous time for patients and their families, but the Southcoast Health Cancer Centers are doing all they can to make that journey a little less stressful.

Southcoast Health is sponsoring the 3rd Annual Nicole Podkowa 5K Run and Walk to raise money for a special Patient, Family and Caregiver Fund. That fund provides financial assistance to Cancer Center patients and their families for items like food, transportation and utility expenses and more.

This year's 5K Walk and Run is a virtual event and will take place on October 3. Nicole Podkowa died from breast cancer in 2016. She was the wife of Southcoast Health Primary Care physician Dr. John Podkowa.

Southcoast Health Cancer Centers are located in Fall River and Fairhaven. The Cancer Center's Director of Operations, Rebecca Schlosser, stopped by Townsquare Sunday this week to discuss the important work being done at the Cancer Centers, and to tell you how you can get involved with the 5K Walk and Run.

Townsquare Sunday is a public affairs program that airs every Sunday morning at 6 on 1420 WBSM. The program highlights individuals and organizations working to improve the quality of life in Greater New Bedford.

If you would like your organization featured on Townsquare Sunday, please e-mail the host at jim.phillips@townsquaremedia.com.
