Funeral arrangements have been announced for late New Bedford Police Chief David Provencher.

The Aubertine-Lopes Funeral Home announced that visiting hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home at 129 Allen st. in New Bedford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph-St. Therese church at 51 Duncan St. in New Bedford.

He will then be interred with full military honors in Sacred Heart Cemetery in New Bedford.

A public memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Zeiterion Theatre at 684 Purchase St. in New Bedford, doors open at 10:30 a.m.

Provencher was a lifelong city resident and spent over 35 years on the city’s police department becoming chief in 2011.

He died Sunday evening after suffering from respiratory arrest.

Provencher was 59.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Chief Provencher's memory to the American Cancer Society or New England Organ Bank.
