Four New Bedford cemeteries have been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The Mayor's Office says the Griffin Street, Oak Grove, Rural, and Jewish cemeteries have been officially added to the Register, citing there are many notable figures in both local and national history interred in the cemeteries.

Historic landscapes and architecture are also listed as reasons for the addition to the register.

The oldest of the four cemeteries, Griffin Street, dates back to 1802.
