It can sometimes feel lonely to be a mom here on the SouthCoast. Days can go by when you feel like you haven’t had a meaningful conversation with another adult.

When you finally do get a chance to leave the house and talk to other people, your sleep deprivation kicks in and you struggle just to keep your eyes open.

Being a parent is tough stuff, but there is something about being a mom that can feel even more daunting.

Why Do Moms Need a Community?

Just like so many other peaks and valleys in a person’s life, it can make sense to share your thoughts and feelings with other people who are in the same boat.

What Is For the Moms?

That was Lexi Soares’ inspiration to create For the Moms, a local, SouthCoast centered mom community. Lexi’s idea was simple. She wanted to create the village that every mother deserves.

“As a mom myself, I know how beautiful motherhood can be, but I also know how lonely it can feel sometimes,” said Lexi. “I wanted to create a space where moms could meet other moms, make genuine friendships, share advice, vent about the hard days, bring their little ones together, and feel like they don’t have to navigate motherhood alone.”

Playdates Are Half the Value

Bringing the little ones together, as Lexi suggested, is such a big part of the club. Children greatly benefit from socializing with other children. It is definitely half of the value of For the Moms.

How Did the First Playdate Go?

It wasn’t long ago that For the Moms was just an idea that was thought up between sippy cups, Dr. Brown’s bottles and burping babies. “It’s so special,” said Soares. “Our community came together for our very first playdate at Play Haven in Fairhaven, and seeing moms and their little ones show up, connect, and make memories together was a moment I’ll never forget. It’s a community built on connection, support, and the reminder that no mom should have to do it all alone.”

What Is Next for SouthCoast Moms?

Lexi’s goal is to continue bringing SouthCoast moms together through playdates, local events, fitness classes, fundraisers and collaborations with small businesses in our community.

Soares says she tries to keep as many of the get togethers from little to no coast. "A lot of the members are happy just to socialize online and ask other moms questions. We've had hundreds of local moms join the group since our launch," she said.

Coming up on October 25 is an event called Pilates for a Purpose. It will take place in Westport.  Details available in the Facebook group For the Moms | SouthCoast.
