A Florida man is dead after his 2012 Mercedes C30 left the highway, hit a tree, and burst into flames.

Sunday evening shortly before 7:30 p.m. Massachusetts State Police responded to reports of a crash on Interstate 195 between Exits 1 and 2 in Seekonk. State police said in a media release that Michael Keefe, 60, of Sarasota, was traveling east when he drove off the left side of the highway and into the median before striking a tree. The driver was ejected, and the vehicle caught fire. Keefe was declared dead at the scene.

The two left lanes were closed during the crash investigation and reconstruction. All lanes were opened at approximately 9:49 p.m.

The crash and surrounding circumstances remain under investigation by troopers assigned to the State Police Dartmouth Barracks, Troop A Headquarters, State Police Detective Unit assigned to Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), Seekonk Police Department, Seekonk Fire & EMS Departments, Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MA DOT) all assisted on scene.
