Fishermen from all over the Northeast received some important safety training Friday, during a day long session at the UMass Dartmouth School of Marine Science and Technology.

The training centered around how to responded to emergencies while at sea, and was sponsored by the Fishing Partnership Support Services.

Director of Communications Brian Delaney tells WBSM News, many of the 48 fishermen attending the classes have received the training before, and have returned for a "refresher" course

Fishermen from as far away as New Jersey were instructed on how to use flares, the importance of survival suits, first aid, and damage control.
