A fisherman has been found dead on board a fishing vessel in New Bedford.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says police were called to the fishing vessel Heckler around 10am Thursday morning. The man, identified only as a 54-year-old Kingston resident, was found dead in the galley by the boat's captain. The boat had been docked at the Coal Pocket Pier when the body was found.

There are no signs of foul play. Vicente tells WBSM News there were no signs of drug use found near the body.

The case is under investigation by New Bedford and State Police detectives, with the assistance of the Medical Examiner's office.

The cause of death is pending autopsy and toxicology results.
