The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are telling American soldiers to scrub their social media accounts. Federal officials issued a warning to US troops this week, urging them to scrub their online accounts of information that Islamic State militants can use against them. The federal bulletin was also sent to former service members and law enforcement agencies.

A spokesman for the Pentagon downplayed the bulletin and said they have been issuing these warnings for a long time. The spokesman said they are always advising troops on how to be smart on social media with regards to travel and upcoming deployments.
