UPDATE:  The District Attorney's Office has identified the woman killed Thursday afternoon as 65-year old Natalia Pires of New Bedford.  A spokesperson says Pires was the driver of the car that crashed into a residential building at 236 Hemlock Street around 1 pm.

A vehicle crashed into a building at 236 Hemlock St in New Bedford Thursday afternoon and a single fatality occurred, the New Bedford Police Department has confirmed.

Police spokeswoman Mellissa Batchilder confirmed that a fatal crash occurred at that address Wednesday afternoon. She referred all further inquiries to the office of Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III. WBSM News has reached out to the DA's office for additional information.

An SUV crashed into the three-family building around 1 p.m., and New Bedford police and fire crews responded. We will post more information as it becomes available.
