A Fall River woman has been sentenced in federal court for stealing Social Security benefits.

Fifty-eight-year-old Gloria Camara appeared before U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani on Tuesday and was sentenced to time served plus three years of supervised release, with the first five months to be served in home confinement.

Camara must also repay the money she stole, more than $84,000. Authorities said Camara began receiving Social Security benefits in 1992. In November 2009, she began working as a caregiver, but for the next 10 years, she failed to report her income while still collecting Social Security.

She pled guilty in August to one count of theft of public funds and one count of making a false statement.
