Drivers in Fall River should expect detours and delays starting in May as crews begin construction in the city.

According to WPRI 12, MassDOT will close Central Street between Davol Street/Route 79 and Pond Street, as well as the Exit 5 ramp of I-195 to Route 79/138 on May 2.

The city of Fall River is planning to reconstruct Central Street to its final configuration. The process is expected to take about two weeks.

“MassDOT assured that signs will be in place to help motorists make their way around the detours.”

“For local access, drivers should use the Water Street connector from Route 79/138 to Ponta Delgada Boulevard and turn right for Water Street/Central Street.”

The exit 5 ramp will be closed for the next couple of months and will be accessible again in September.

It is suggested for motorists to continue to Exit 6 at Pleasant Street and continue to Pleasant Street, Ninth Street, Bedford Street, Central Street and onto South Davol Street for Route 79/138 North or turn left for Route 79/138 South.

More specific information about detours can be found at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation website.
