Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the SouthCoast community has shown support and stepped up to make a difference -- from JoJo Carreiro's lasagna bake sale in Westport to the New Bedford Democratic Committee's efforts to raise funds.

Now, a Fall River restaurant is ready to join the rally to spread some love toward one Ukrainian family temporarily residing in Rhode Island.

Shorty's Pub on Aetna Street has organized a fundraiser on Sunday, May 22, to help a mom and two children who fled their embattled country to find safety. Unfortunately, the children's father had to stay behind to fight and defend their homeland.

"We have sold over 75 tickets, have a ton of raffles, and are doing a 50/50 raffle that day," one of the owners, Pamela Verissimo, said. "One-hundred percent of the proceeds from these will be going to this family to help with rent, medical expenses, food and day-to-day living expenses."

As of right now, the Ukrainian family cannot work since they do not have proper visas to do so. Funds from this event will go a long way to ensure the family is comfortable for the time being.

The quaint, family-owned business has always strived to help out those who could use a helping hand, so the Verissimos are no strangers to these acts of kindness.

A full menu will be available from noon to 8 p.m. Cat & Jimmy will entertain in Shorty's outdoor patio area.

If you've been waiting for an opportune time to help a country in need, then stop by and show the Pinchuk family some love.

Reach out to Lorraine at (774) 930-6063 or Pamela at (508) 567-2900 with questions. Tickets are available for purchase at Shorty's Pub.
