Fall River Repeat Offender Sentenced for Trafficking Fentanyl

FALL RIVER — A 47-year-old Fall River repeat offender arrested in 2017 for trafficking fentanyl was sentenced to serve two-and-a-half years to four years in state prison last week in Fall River Superior Court, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.

Glen Ramos pleaded guilty to an indictment charging him with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl-subsequent offense.

On February 24, 2017, Detective John Lapointe, of the Fall River Police Department Vice Unit, was on patrol in the city of Fall River. Detective Lapointe was working in conjunction with members of the Massachusetts State Police Gang Task Force, specifically Trooper Paul Dunderdale.

As the officers approached the area of the St. John’s Club parking lot at 1365 Rodman Street in Fall River, Detective Lapointe observed a man exit a silver pickup truck and approach a white Chevy pickup truck. The man had a quick interaction with the driver of the white pick-up. He then got back in his silver pickup and drove away. Believing they had just witnessed a drug transaction, the officers continued observing the white pickup and observed another man approach and receive an item from the passenger side of the pickup.

The officers approached the white pickup on foot. Trooper Dunderdale went to the driver’s side of the white truck and Lapointe went to the passenger’s side. As they got to the windows, they identified themselves as police officers and observed what was believed to be heroin, based on the blue glassine packaging, on the center console.  Officers later found more of the baggies in the defendant’s pocket and observed what appeared to be additional heroin, based on the packaging, in a black bag on the floor near Ramos’ feet.

The total amount of blue glassine baggies found in the truck was 1,230 bags. Also in the truck the police found approximately $2,000 in cash.  The substance in the baggies was later tested at the state lab and was determined to be fentanyl.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Daniel Walsh and the state prison sentence was imposed by Judge Gregg Pasquale.

“The defendant has been selling drugs for more than 20 years. He clearly doesn’t get it. The sentence will keep him of the street until he is at least 50 years old,” District Attorney Quinn said.
