FALL RIVER — Fall River Police are investigating after a Rhode Island man was stabbed at a city bar over the weekend.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, Tiverton Police received a call on its non-emergency line from a person who said his friend had been stabbed at Mickey Doyle’s Sports Bar, located at 390 Rhode Island Avenue in Fall River.

Tiverton Police responded to the Tiverton home from where the call was made, and after a brief investigation notified Fall River Police of the incident location and that the victim was being transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.

The 27-year-old victim of the stabbing, who is also from Tiverton, suffered a stab wound to the right side of his torso and his right hand was cut. Fall River Officer Raul Camara responded to Rhode Island Hospital to speak to the victim.

Officer Camara learned that a fight started after a 26-year-old Tiverton woman was assaulted early Saturday morning as last call was announced at the bar. The woman responded by punching the man in the face. A fight then broke out in the bar. Bouncers were able to move the brawlers outside the bar. The woman’s boyfriend, the victim of the stabbing, then got into a fistfight with the man who allegedly assaulted her. The bouncers stepped in again and separated the woman’s boyfriend from the suspect.

The woman’s boyfriend broke free, and the fight continued. The victim was so upset he went around the bouncers and continued to fight with the suspect. It was at this time the victim believes he was stabbed. He did not immediately go to the hospital, but returned to his Tiverton home.

The victim was unable to identify a suspect but told police he appeared to be a man in his 30s.

The incident remains open and anyone with information is asked to contact the Fall River Police Department Officer Raul Camara at (508) 676-8511 or rcamara@frpd.org. Anonymous calls can also be placed on the TIPS line at (508) 672-TIPS (8477).
