Mr. Chen's in Fall River is saying thanks to the community that's supported the restaurant since the beginning.

For years, the Chinese restaurant has dropped off deliveries of its delicious menu items to local police departments as a small gesture of gratitude.

"It's me and my wife Emily's way of saying, 'Thank you,'" owner Wu Chen said.

"Fall River is where people built me and gave me the life that I'm living in right now," Chen said. "I'm not just doing it for the police station, sometimes small, business, schools, animal shelters, stuff like that."

Thankful for Donations

"Acts of generosity like this reinforce the strong partnership between public safety and our local businesses, and they go a long way in boosting morale," Berkley Police Chief Arthur Newhook Jr. said.

Chen said dropping off food has become a bit of a tradition for the last few years, paying gratitude to his community.

"I do it every year," he said. "I went from $25, $50 to buy donuts, coffee and stuff like that, and now every year just getting bigger and bigger."

A Heartfelt Tradition

"Receiving contributions and donations from local businesses truly means a great deal to all of us. It’s a reminder that the work our officers and firefighters do every day is seen, valued, and supported by the community we are proud to serve," Chief Newhook said.

Mr. Chen's brought enough food to feed the masses.

"The reaction throughout the department was overwhelmingly positive. There were plenty of smiles and genuine appreciation," Newhook said.

"The food was delicious, as always, and very much enjoyed by both our police and fire departments as well as town hall employees and the highway department, because he brought so much," Newhook said.

It couldn't have been done without the generosity of Mr. Chen's and other local businesses, who Chen was quick to thank. Hill and Hollow Farm and Mark Horsfall made this delicious donation possible.
