FALL RIVER — The recall of Mayor Jasiel Correia II is now underway.

A petition with the names of 10 registered Fall River voters was  certified by City Clerk Alison Bouchard on Monday morning, according to The Herald News.  A petition submitted last week was rejected because of some incorrect voter addresses.

The group behind the recall now has 20 days to collect signatures of five percent of registered voters in the city. With 50,207 voters, 2510 certified signatures are needed.

If the group meets the November 19th deadline, the information will be given to the City Council. They will then request Correia to resign from office. If he does not step down within five days, the council will schedule the recall election.

Correia was arrested on 13 federal charges of wire and tax fraud. The mayor has stated several times that he will not step down and he will fight the charges.
