The drawbridge that connects Fall River and Somerset across the Taunton River will be undergoing several daytime test openings over the next couple of weeks.

The Veterans Memorial Bridge, which brings Route 6 across the river, will open three times a day for two weeks, with each opening expected to last about 12 minutes.

The test openings will begin on March 27 and take place Monday through Friday through April 7. The openings will be at 10 a.m, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

“The test openings are necessary to perform operational and maintenance testing of the bridge system components to ensure the continued safe operation of the drawbridge,” the Massachusetts Department of Transportation said in a release.

MassDOT said motorists should expect delays during the times of the planned openings, and that the work is weather permitting.
