FALL RIVER — Fall River Police arrested two people they say attempted to break into an apartment and were then found with a firearm.

On Monday, March 1, at approximately 6:11 p.m., officers were dispatched to 306 Bank Street, Apartment 2 in regards to a break in progress. Upon the officer’s arrival, they were informed that the parties potentially involved with the break-in that was in progress were located in the backyard of the residence.

It was initially reported to officers that a female voice was yelling outside of the apartment door, “Let me in, let me in!” A male suspect subsequently broke into the apartment with a blue crowbar. At some point, police say both suspects fled the apartment.

Officers were able to locate two parties in the backyard: Jose Almeida, 38, and Anahi Rodrigues, 39. Almeida was located on the fire escape of 306 Bank Street. Police say he had a crowbar in his hand. They also say Rodrigues had a black backpack in her hands and placed it on the ground upon seeing the officers.

It was learned that Rodrigues had an arrest warrant and she was placed under arrest. Almeida was also placed under arrest. While placing Rodrigues under arrest, police say they observed a firearm in plain view located in a black backpack that was in her possession. This firearm was later identified as an Extar 5.56 AR-15 pistol. According to police, the firearm was discovered loaded with two rounds wedged in the open chamber. They also say two PMAG firearm magazines with approximately 10 to 15 rounds of 5.56 ammunition were seized with the firearm.

Almeida is charged with attempted breaking and entering during the daytime with intent to commit a felony, and possession of burglarious tools.

Rodrigues is charged with attempted breaking and entering during the daytime to commit a felony; possession of burglarious tools; possession of a large capacity firearm; two counts of possession of a large-capacity firearm feeding device; possession of ammunition without an FID card; firearm violation with three prior violent/drug crimes; possession of a large capacity firearm while committing a felony; carrying a firearm on a public way; and was also arrested on two warrants.
