A man and a woman from Fall River and Brockton are under arrest on drug and gun charges after police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Rt. 24 southbound in Taunton on Tuesday night.

Massachusetts State Police arrived at the crash scene around 9:35 p.m. confirmed there were no injuries, and started investigating the occupants of a Nissan SUV involved in the crash, according to an MSP statement.

Police say the driver, 20-year-old Savon Gonsalves of Fall River, was displaying signs of impairment. Police also determined that the Nissan made an unsafe lane change causing the crash. Gonsalves was evaluated for impairment and placed under arrest. Police say he also had an active warrant for his arrest for violating probation terms from prior narcotics and firearms charges.

Meanwhile, another trooper spoke to a passenger in the Nissan, identified as Serena Silva, 19, of Brockton. Police say he observed a firearm in a bag she had just removed from the vehicle. Troopers confiscated a Glock 27 .40 Caliber handgun, loaded with a single round in the chamber.

Police also allegedly found "multiple knotted plastic baggies containing a substance believed to be fentanyl" along with $2,027 in cash.

Silva and Gonsalves were transported to state police headquarters in Middleboro for booking. A bail commissioner ordered Gonsalves held without bail. Silva was initially held with a bail amount of $2,500.
