If you are a parent of toddlers, here is an opportunity you might like.

Fairhaven Recreation Center on Huttleston Avenue in Fairhaven is inviting toddlers and their parents to a free play time. No membership or registration is required. It's absolutely free.

Center director Kelly Peterson says the program was tested out for a couple of weeks this month. The events proved so popular that Peterson has decided to extend the program until summer.

The free toddler time returns on Tuesday, May 2, and will wrap on June 13 to make way for the recreation center's summer programs for the town's youth.

What is the age range for Toddler Tuesday?  Peterson says it's a range.

"We have a variety of activities that we're putting out in the gym for the kids, so we're not really limiting the ages," she said. "There are no age requirements for it. We're telling parents as long as they feel like their child is going to benefit from coming to Toddler Tuesday, they are certainly welcome. We'll take kids from 1 to 5."

The recreation center will set up all kinds of equipment in the gym. Children will have access to just about anything a toddler could want: mats, balance bikes, trikes, rockers, see-saws, stilts, balls, toys, games, tunnels to crawl in and playhouses.

The play will be unstructured free exploration and will offer a chance for toddlers to get some play time with one another.
