Fairhaven Police Getting Tough on Illegal Fireworks
Fairhaven Police are strongly enforcing fireworks laws in the town. Sale, possession, and use of fireworks is illegal in Massachusetts, unless conducted by licensed professionals.
Sgt. Kevin Kobza tells WBSM News in the wrong hands, fireworks can be extremely dangerous. "Several years back, we actually had somebody killed by some fireworks he was trying to set off," said Kobza. "In addition to that, an elderly woman in town had her porch set on fire by some fireworks that landed on the roof of her house."
Kobza says anybody caught selling fireworks will be arrested, and anybody found in possession can face stiff fines.
On July 4th, Fairhaven Police will be checking bags and coolers on the hurricane barrier at Fort Phoenix and other locations, confiscating any alcohol and illegal fireworks.
