Fairhaven Man Leads New Bedford Police on Miles-Long Chase
NEW BEDFORD — A Fairhaven man is arrested following a motor vehicle pursuit through New Bedford.
New Bedford Police were on patrol in the area of Route 18 and Union Street at around 2:30 a.m. on Friday when they observed a motorcycle approach a bar in that area. Police say the operator of the motorcycle revved the engine, causing noise loud enough that prompted police to attempt to stop the motorcycle.
As police tried to pull the motorcycle over, the operator fled at a high rate of speed for several miles without stopping for red lights, according to police, and at times traveling on both sides of the road.
Police say the driver lost control of the motorcycle in the area of Page and Hawthorn Streets in New Bedford's West End, dropping the bike. Police were able to apprehend the driver, Dylan Lefevre, 24, of Fairhaven, and place him under arrest.
Lefevre is charged with speeding, operating a motor vehicle with unnecessary noise, failing to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, illegally attaching plates, and failure to stop/yield.
