Fairhaven Teacher in the Running to Be America’s Favorite
A Fairhaven elementary school teacher is in the running to be America's Favorite Teacher.
Fun 107 has recognized SouthCoast teachers for years with our Teacher of the Month program, handing out prizes and show them off because they absolutely deserve it.
We recently found out that Kendra Lee Langlais, a fifth grade teacher at the Leroy L. Wood Elementary School in Fairhaven, has been nominated for Reader's Digest's "America's Favorite Teacher" contest.
The contest is voter-based and she has a real shot of winning.
If she is the winner, Langlais will get a pretty awesome prize of $25,000 and a trip to Hawaii, but the coolest part is Bill Nye the Science Guy will visit the school of the winning teacher.

Langlais said she will use the money to pay off her student loan debts, which I think so many of us can relate to and is something that can't be easily done on a teacher's salary.
Teaching for over 16 years with 12 of those years spent at Wood School, Langlais not only teaches fifth grade but also teaches ELA, social studies and co-teaches science with Ms. Hunt.
Time is running out to vote and she has been sitting at the No. 2 spot for a few days now. Langlais never expected to make it this far and credits it to all her students.
"A lot of my students have worked really hard to get the word out for me by not only having their families vote for me, but sharing my link on public pages, too," she said. "They have even gone so far to collaboratively create a Google slide as to why everyone should vote for me."
"It's all really flattering and heartwarming," she said.
If you get a second, cast your vote for an amazing local teacher.
I'm geeking out that Bill Nye could be coming to Fairhaven. Plus, we would have the bragging rights of saying we have America's Favorite Teacher right here.
