The public is invited to join in some scientific fun later this month. NB Star Party is an NB Science Cafe KIDS event that will be held on Friday, February 28 from 7 to 9 pm. Hosted by Destination New Bedford and New Bedford Parks, Recreation & Beaches, this event is meant to encourage youth to experience science with fresh eyes.

Travel to the far reaches of our solar system and beyond with students in the NASA Solar System Explorers from Ford Middle School in Acushnet. These young scientists, and NASA Solar System Ambassador, Joe Cote, will be at the Fort Taber Low Tide Yacht Club to connect you with the rest of the universe. The Solar System Explorers will have indoor learning stations on planets outside our solar system, moon phases and craters, telescopes, and constellations.

Then take a short walk over to our astronomy observing area, where the Astronomical Society of Southern New England (ASSNE) will have telescopes set up to view the Moon, the Orion Nebula, star clusters, and other astronomical objects. Ask questions and try hands-on activities. Learn from fellow students, local amateur astronomers, and from a NASA Ambassador who has visited nearly every NASA facility in the U.S.

As if taking a deep dive into the universe wasn’t enough, they’ll also be serving free cookies and hot chocolate.

Please note that there is a rain date scheduled for this event. Check the Facebook event page for an update to make sure it isn't rescheduled on Friday, February 28.
