NEW BEDFORD — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Monday that it has awarded a $579,991 grant to CLF Ventures for six new engines on a tugboat based in New Bedford.

"EPA is very pleased that this funding will help reduce diesel emission and provide cleaner air for southeastern Massachusetts communities," said EPA New England Regional Administrator Alexandra Dunn.

CLF Ventures will fund the other $727,560 needed for the installation of two EPA-certified Tier 3 marine propulsion engines and four EPA-certified Tier 3 marine auxiliary engines for the MV/Kodiak tugboat.

Congressman William Keating was also at the grant-announcement event and said: "This will result in over five-and-a-half tons of emissions taken out of the environment here each year."
