The South Terminal Maritime Project planned for the New Bedford Harbor has been legitimized by the EPA. The EPA announced the approval of the project Monday afternoon, and says the proposal meets all requirements established by the agency.

Mayor Jon Mitchell says construction of the terminal will restore jobs to a struggling local economy.

Congressman William Keating says as the project progresses, the Southcoast becomes more and more poised to be a nationwide leader in offshore wind development.

The $100-million terminal goes out to bid for construction over the next few weeks, with crews breaking ground in the Spring. The 28-acre terminal should be completed in 2014, with Cape Wind using the terminal as a staging area for the nation's first offshore wind farm.
