Driver Charged After Allegedly Striking Young Child, Trying to Flee Scene
FALL RIVER - A young child is hospitalized and a teen driver arrested after police say the boy was hit by a car.
The incident took place outside of the Burlington Coat Factory in Fall River Sunday evening. Police tell WJAR-TV the car struck the 7-year-old boy and the exterior wall of the Burlington Coat Factory and then attempted to flee, hitting three parked cars in the process.
The 19-year-old male driver from Fall River was arrested at the scene.
The boy was transported to Hasbro Children's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the driver is being charged with negligent operation of a vehicle, operating a vehicle without a license, and leaving the scene. Additional charges could be filed.
The identity of the driver has not yet been released.
