FAIRHAVEN — An 84-year-old man has been hospitalized after being struck by a pickup truck driven by another elderly male.

Fairhaven Police and EMS responded to the intersection of Huttleston Avenue and Francis Street at approximately 9 a.m. on Wednesday after receiving a report of a man being hit by a pickup truck.

Upon arrival, officers found an 84-year-old Fairhaven man who had been injured in the collision. The man was conscious and alert at the scene. He was transported by ambulance to Fairhaven High School where he was flown via MedFlight to Rhode Island Hospital. The extent of his injuries is not known at this time.

The driver of the Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, an 80-year-old Fairhaven man, remained at the scene and cooperated with police during the investigation. Police also received information from witnesses who remained at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the victim had been crossing Huttleston Avenue and had nearly reached the curb when he was struck by the pickup truck that was traveling east.

The truck sustained damage to its hood and windshield. The driver of the truck was not injured.

A Fairhaven Police accident reconstruction officer was called to the scene to investigate. The accident remains under investigation.
