The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has granted a deadline extension to New Bedford and Somerset.

Commissioners deliberated after hearing testimony from Mayor Jon Mitchell and KG Urban Enterprises representatives, and decided in a 3-2 vote to extend the deadline for Phase One applications to May 4.

Gaming Commissioner Stephen Crosby seemed to be blindsided by the announcement of a host community agreement between New Bedford and KG Urban.

Brockton was the only competitor to submit an application by the March 16 deadline. Commissioner Crosby argued it would be fair to allow more competition for the Region C license by extending the deadline, than to have only one option to consider.

KG Urban must now find equity to fund the project in order to meet the Phase One application requirements.
