FALL RIVER — A Dartmouth town employee has been arrested and charged with rape following an incident in Westport last weekend.

Westport Police confirmed to WBSM News that Kevin C. Nunes, 48, of North Dartmouth was arrested for rape and indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 years of age. The incident occurred in Westport on January 18, and Nunes was arrested yesterday. He was arraigned this morning at the Fall River Justice Center.

WBSM News received a tip this afternoon that a person employed by the Dartmouth Department of Public Works, and specifically the Water Department, had been arrested and charged with rape. An employee at the Fall River Justice Center was able to confirm that Nunes had been arraigned, but the docket information was restricted due to the Rape Shield Law.

Westport Police also confirmed that Nunes is employed by the Town of Dartmouth, although it could not be confirmed which department.

According to Westport Police spokesman Sgt. Christopher Dunn, the case remains under investigation and Westport Police will release more information and a booking photograph on Monday.
