A Fall River man was arrested by Dartmouth Police Friday and charged with trafficking oxycodone following a shoplifting incident.

According to Dartmouth Police, officers responded to Walmart at about 1:15 p.m. on November 26 for a shoplifting complaint.

Police said that during the investigation, Officer Craig Cote observed one of the alleged shoplifters – Daniel Tavares, 35, of Fall River – throw something behind some vending machines. A search behind the machines turned up several plastic bags containing suspected oxycodone tablets, police said. The total weight of the tablets was 25 grams.

Tavares was placed under arrest and charged with trafficking oxycodone and shoplifting (third offense). Police also seized $1,777 in cash from Tavares during booking.
