There is another new addition emerging on Faunce Corner Road that I have been watching as it slowly takes shape. Like many of you, I have been wondering what it will be when all is said and done. A bank? A new restaurant? Another Hawthorn Medical building? Nope!

This week I noticed a sign posted in front of the plywood shell of the new structure rising just to the north of the Dunkin'. What is slowly taking shape is Dartmouth's first entry into the retail marijuana world.

Solar Cannabis Company, with locations already operational in Somerset and Seekonk, looks to be making pretty quick progress on its newest location, set to open later this year at 493 Faunce Corner Road.

Messages left with the company via telephone and email have yet to draw a response, so I can't say when Solar's Dartmouth location will open, but the company's website indicates it will be sometime this year.

The Dartmouth Planning Board signed off on Solar Cannabis Company's plans last year when Dartmouth Week quoted CEO Edward Dow as saying, "We have a good operation in Somerset," and that "we intend to try and bring that exact business model over to Dartmouth."

The Dartmouth location is within the cannabis overlay district established by the town and will be fenced in when complete.
