PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Emergency personnel responding to reports of a man who had possibly jumped from the Mount Hope Bridge in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, over the weekend later recovered the man in the water.

The Providence Journal reports the man was seen in the center span of the bridge shortly before noon on Sunday when he jumped to the water below.

The Bristol Harbormaster located the man in the water. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, but he later died.

The man has been identified as a 50-year-old Dartmouth resident. His name is being withheld due to the sensitivity of the case.
