DARTMOUTH — A Westport man was arrested last week at a Dartmouth motel after crashing his car while unsuccessfully trying to flee from police — before a K-9 unit found suspected drugs at the scene.

Dartmouth Police said that on July 23, officers arrested John Oliveira, 61, of Sodom Road in Westport at the Dartmouth Motor Inn following a narcotics investigation.

Police said that K-9 Officer Jared White and his partner Tyr found suspected drugs during a search of the area where Oliveira was apprehended.

They seized around 5.5 grams of suspected cocaine, 4.8 grams of suspected crack cocaine, and several pills believed to be Oxycodone along with $1,059 in cash.

Oliveira was charged with three counts of possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, resisting arrest, failure to stop for police, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
