'Tis the season for ghosts and ghouls, as one Dartmouth house proudly shows.

Halloween is upon us as many decorate their homes for the spooky season.

Getting Into the Holiday Spirit

Dartmouth's Michelle Almeida is no stranger to embracing the holiday spirit, something her father instilled in her from a young age.

"It stemmed from being a kid," Almeida said. "My dad would do homemade crafts and fill socks and make them into ghosts and do homemade stuff and hang them in the trees just because he wanted us to be involved."

Skeletons, Ghosts and More

Now a mom of two, it's Michelle's turn to put out the giant skeletons, hang the cobwebs and celebrate All Hallows' Eve.

"When I first had my children, it was hard to find things to do that weren't the same old pumpkin patch or apple picking or something that was still Halloween but not too scary for them to do," Almeida said. "So, that's why I got into decorating the yard and making it like a big spectacle and kind of fun."

That was 11 years ago. Now, her display has grown and it's certainly a sight to see.

"Kids especially really like the 12-foot skeleton because I named him Tiny," Almeida said.

Plus, it's family-friendly; no jump scares or gore in this yard.

"It's sensory-friendly. It's kid-friendly," Almeida said, "And it's available day or night."

So what does her husband think of all the decor?

"He's a good sport," Almeida said with a chuckle. "It started real small, and then I think it took a year or two where he's like, oh, this is a thing."
