Dartmouth's Parks and Recreation Department Director Tim Lancaster showed off a new software package being used to catalog burial plots at Monday night's Select Board meeting. The software will prevent the town from selling the same plot twice and is one of many improvements Lancaster's team has made to cemetery management since the volunteer Cemetery Commission was disbanded by Town Meeting over a year ago. Lancaster said the improvements mean residents can trust the town to properly manage its cemeteries again.

The new Parks and Recreation Board was created after Dartmouth dissolved its Cemetery Commission, Parks Commission and Recreation Board. The Cemetery Commission had been plagued by problems in its final year.
