Dartmouth Brush Fire on I-195
DARTMOUTH — The Dartmouth Fire Department is on the scene of an apparent brush fire in the median of I-195.
According to Massachusetts State Police, at about 3:32 p.m. this afternoon, multiple calls came into the Dartmouth barracks of a brush fire in the median of I-195 westbound at mile marker 20.26.
State Police say troopers were on scene at 3:38, and the Dartmouth Fire Department arrived shortly thereafter.
The New Bedford Fire Department was among those providing mutual aid for the fire, sending Engine 1 and Engine 7 to the scene.
"While our two busiest engines were assisting Dartmouth, it left E9 from Tarkiln Hill Road and Ashley Boulevard to cover the downtown/West End area," the New Bedford firefighters' union wrote on its Facebook page.
"Glad we could return the favor to our brothers and sisters next door. We still owe you," the union posted, referring to the frequent mutual aid provided to New Bedford during a spate of recent fires amidst Mayor Jon Mitchell's plan to decommission Engine 8.
